The UK government has recently announced an easing of the lock down restrictions and the RFU “Return To Community Rugby Roadmap” is currently at “Status B” “Small Group training”.  With this in mind Ruislip Rugby Club has agreed to launch a pre-season training pilot programme with the male senior team to see how this will work in practice.

Please note that RFU Status B” “Small Group training” means

  • Exercise in a small group (6 maximum including the coach)
  • Maintain social distance (2m minimum ideally but 1m if special measures are in place)
  • No face to face or close contact
  • Equipment sharing to be kept to a minimum

The senior team will start some pre-season fitness testing on 4th July.

A second fitness testing evening is planned on 9th July, plus the team will get together to discuss and plan as far as possible for the season ahead, however this will be outside and a 2m social distance should be maintained and will NOT be inside the clubhouse which remains closed.

If all goes well, senior male pre-season training will start on 14th July.

Depending upon the success of the seniors’ social distanced training pilot programme and any updates of the guidance from the UK Government and the RFU, the club will then work with coaches to put in place a timetable for other groups wanting to return to training in line with the RFU’s code of practice to ensure the safety of the players, coaches, members and their families.  Please note the club takes the health and wellbeing of our members as our top priority and that is why the club is taking this prudent approach.

The club will perform a risk assessment in line with the RFU guidelines and cleaning products will be purchased to clean any equipment prior to the commencement of training.

The Club Committee will monitor how successful the implementation of social distancing rules are within other indoor establishments and when all the correct measures are in place then the club house will be re-opened, but at present there is no timetable for re-opening the club house which we expect to remain closed for July and August.

The Club Committee thank you for your patience in these unprecedented times, we all want to start rugby again but will do so only when it is safe.
