Sir Jack Petchey was born into a working class family in the East End of London in 1925. He left school at 13 with no qualifications joining the Royal Navy in 1943 during the Second World War.

Having been told by his superiors he would never be successful, he spent the little money earned whilst serving in the Navy on a car and started his own taxi business.  Through many years of perseverance Sir Jack is one of the UK’s most successful entrepreneurs with many different business ventures.

Sir Jack’s experiences led to his passion to increase young peoples’ aspirations by rewarding their achievements and encouraging young people to try their best. It is not always about “the best” but working hard and being the very best you can be!

Sir Jack always says:
If you think you can, you can!

RRFC aspires to acknowledge the efforts of all young people and is therefore proud to be part of the Jack Petchey Achievement Award scheme. As part of the scheme RRFC has three awards per year to award to those nominated in one of the following categories:-

  • Being a good role model/mentor
  • Volunteering
  • Helping others over and above expectations
  • Showing bravery
  • Breaking through a personal barrier
  • Overcoming a personal challenge
  • Trying really hard

The successful winner is then awarded £250 to invest in an area of the club that benefits players eg a trip, specialist coaching, equipment, a team event or a celebration event.
